Director of Education
The Indiana University Eskenazi Museum of Art seeks a talented leader to direct one of the best education departments in an American university art museum during an exciting period of transition and growth. Beginning this summer, the IU Eskenazi Museum of Art is embarking on a $30 million renovation project that will transform the museum into a preeminent teaching museum, both for Indiana University and for the broader southern Indiana community. The successful candidate will have significant experience in art museum education, and be able to provide energetic and inspired leadership for a department consisting of senior staff that focus on university engagement; K-12 school outreach; and innovative educational programing. The Director of Education will collaborate closely with the museum’s executive director and senior leadership team to develop and implement a vision for making Indiana University’s incredible art collections as accessible and engaging for our community as possible. The successful candidate will need to be an effective communicator who can rally staff, friends and supporters of the museum as well as members of the university and school community behind the museum’s vision.
The director for education position will be the IU Eskenazi Museum of Art’s leader in providing engagement with and access to the museum and its collections for the Indiana University community and for the region and state in K-12 visual arts education.
This position will have a high level of institutional influence and decision-making responsibilities. The position requires leadership to develop and implement both the institution’s and education department’s strategic plans. The successful leader will be able to grow activities, staff, and resources for education.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree and five years of experience in an art museum. Must have superior writing and speaking skills; understanding of database management and word processing.
