Gund Foundation Curatorial Fellowship

The Gund Foundation Curatorial Fellowship at MOCA Cleveland is a two-year appointment that provides rich mentorship and meaningful career training for an emerging curator from a community that is underrepresented in the contemporary art and art museum fields. This fellowship will contribute to the further diversification of ideas, knowledge, and experiences at MOCA, as well as increase diversity among curators in the field.

Reporting to the Senior Curator, the Gund Curatorial Fellow is a full-time member of the curatorial team responsible for supporting exhibitions and artist projects, developing and managing artist projects, creating exhibition and artist-related public programs, and engaging the local community with today’s art. The Gund Curatorial Fellow will contribute to the Museum’s broader efforts to bring innovative approaches to inclusion in MOCA’s culture and programming.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide curatorial support in all phases of exhibition development, including: research; checklist development; lender and artist relations; publication development; writing texts for exhibition interpretation, online content, and press and promotional materials; exhibition floor plan development; installation; and development of interpretive programs related to exhibitions.
• Assist with other departmental support including special programs, presentations, leading tours, and donor relations.
• Conceive and organize one artist project each year under the supervision of the Senior Curator.
• Work with the Deputy Director, curatorial, and education teams to conceive and manage exhibition-based public programs on and offsite including but not limited to talks, performances, and community projects.
• Support and model inclusive practices in planning, supporting, and executing projects and programs.
• Serve as a key curatorial liaison for local and regional artists.
• Provide mentorship as appropriate to participants in MOCA’s Here, Our Voices teen program (facilitated by MOCA’s Curator of Education and Engagement)

Qualifications and Skills
• MA or MFA in art history, museum studies, contemporary art, or a related field of study.
• Previous internship/work experience at a contemporary art/culture-focused organization.
• Demonstrable knowledge of the field including the current activities of peer organizations, emerging and established artists, and trending topics in critical cultural discourse.
• Advanced writing and public speaking skills.

This is a 2 year appointment working full time Monday -Friday. You should also expect occasional evenings and weekends to accommodate special events such as artist talks and community engagement events. This is a full-time, paid fellowship.
